Eyepractice Ltd is an independent optometry practice established by Alex Gaines in 2001.

77 Thoroughfare was converted by Ron Hurlock from residential to an ophthalmic opticians practice in 1971. Andrew Field bought the business in 1989 and employed Alex in 1992 for his training year. Alex continued to work with and learn from Andrew and Ron until their retirement and then took on the business.

Sadly Andrew Field passed away in December 2020, we will all miss him. A tribute to Andrew is online at https://andrew-field.muchloved.com/

At eyepractice Ltd we welcome both private and NHS patients. We have a wide selection of frames to choose from, including some which are free with an NHS spectacle voucher.

As a well established practice we are proud to be looking after the eyes of four generations of some local families. We are always happy to welcome new patients and enjoy the challenge of solving their eye problems.

We are involved in a referral refinement scheme where patients with a variety of eye conditions are referred to us for advice and treatment in order to avoid a hospital appointment.

Our contact lens patients are provided with a 24 hour contact number in case of an emergency out of working hours.

Our aim is to provide a friendly and thorough service. We give our patients the choice of which optometrist they see for continuity of care. The eyepractice optometrists are:

  • Alex Gaines BSc MCOptom,
  • Kirsty Maidment BSc MCOptom,
  • Su-Im Chin BSc MCOptom
  • Jeremy Gray BSc.

Our experienced Dispensing Opticians will help you find the glasses and lenses to suit you and your visual requirements. The dispensing opticians are:

  • Tinneke Jackson FBDO
  • Jacqueline Bird FBDO
  • Rebecca Willis FBDO.

We offer a re-glazing service so you can re-use your favourite glasses when the lenses need updating. Using our on-site glazing laboratory or pre-cut lenses we can glaze new lenses into your frame. If a glazing appointment has been arranged we glaze most lenses within an hour, so you are not left for long without glasses.
